Scaling Up is an internationally proven framework that has helped over 70,000 companies world-wide transform into industry dominating businesses.
What is Scaling Up?
At its core, Scaling Up is about realising the fundamental idea that running a business is about finding freedom. But as anyone who leads a business knows, the harsh reality is usually long hours and reduced rewards. So, how can you make more money, spend less time managing people and most importantly, enjoy the process? Scaling Up is the answer.
As a leading certified Australian Scaling Up coach, Anna Samios helps you implement the strategic framework that will free your time and align your team so you can focus on growing your business and achieving your goals. With Anna by your side, you’ll find that freedom and start kicking those goals.
Verne Harnish
In 2002, Verne Harnish, aka the Growth Guy, published a book called ‘Mastering the Rockefeller Habits’. He followed up in 2014 with ‘Scaling Up: How a few companies make it… and why the rest don’t’. Both books became bestsellers and launched the Scaling Up methodology – a framework that has helped over 70,000 companies worldwide scale successfully.
Executed effectively, the Scaling Up framework will deliver:
Money – Grow profitability, cash and market valuation
Time – Reduce the time it takes you to manage your team by 80%
Freedom – Achieve your goals and enjoy the climb!
Rockefeller Habits
Oil magnate. Philanthropist. The wealthiest American of all time. These are just a few of the monikers attached to the name John D Rockefeller. The man himself came from a large family and humble beginnings before he founded the Standard Oil company and went on to become the richest man in modern history.
The Rockefeller Habits are the foundation of the Scaling Up framework. By analysing Rockefeller’s leadership and management practices, Verne Harnish, the mastermind of Scaling Up, identified the ten key habits essential for building an industry dominating business. These habits are centred around communication, accountability and visibility; they speak to the heart of every business and are crucial for sustainable growth.
BHAG
Big Hairy Audacious Goal. You know the acronym coined by business gurus Jim Collins and Jerry Porras. The most famous example, of course, is President Kennedy’s BHAG “…I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth.”
Your BHAG is your organisation’s long-term goal, guided by your vision and values. It’s fundamental to scaling your company – it unites your team, it creates a shared goal and it underpins your strategy.
Flywheel
A flywheel is the mechanical device; it’s basically a big heavy metal disk attached to a rotational shaft. Its job is to smooth out the delivery of power from the motor to the machine. In other words, it keeps everything running smoothly. And it’s momentum that keeps the flywheel turning.
When it comes to the business flywheel, another concept developed by the great Jim Collins, is the idea that if you keep pushing, while it will be hard to move at first, little by little you’ll gain momentum and reach a breakthrough. It isn’t one big push that leads to success, it’s the repeated, incremental effort of implementing a strategic plan that will lead to sustained results.
“The flywheel delivers game changing tactical moves. They’re like strategic chess moves; once you make one move, it forces you to get to the next move a lot faster. So, by prioritising these actions within an organisation, you can actually start to scale a lot faster.” – Anna Samios
How does Scaling Up work?
It comes down to four key elements: people, strategy, execution and cash.
In Verne Harnish’s book, ‘Mastering the Rockefeller Habits 2.0: Scaling Up’, he identifies that 96% of companies in the market will stagnate in their first stage. Only a company with strong growth potential, leadership, strong organisation and great adaptability will rise to the next level.
The key to successfully scaling your business is mastering and implementing the core Scaling Up growth tools, then choosing ONE element that is critical to you right now and making it your TOP priority for the next quarter.
People – learn how to attract, develop and keep a team of A-players.
Strategy – understand the process of how to craft an industry-dominating strategy.
Execution – reduce the time it takes you to manage your team by 80%.
Cash – hands on ‘cash is king’ working session.
